Yeah, I think the Allura sacrifice is pretty much universally hated by everyone. In nearly every other fandom when the spoiler to the main ship is removed, fandom cheers but not even the antis were happy about this or the fact that Shiro and Keith had like two lines ('cuz while they don't see the romantic posibilities, even the dimmest bulbs got that Shiro and Keith are important to one another).
One person described this finale as being "empty-sad" versus "full-sad" and that makes sense. Full-sad is the way Madoka Magica ends with Madoka learning about Homura going back in time over and over to prevent her death and deciding to rewrite the laws to give magical girls peace and end the cycle. Full-sad is pretty much everything in FMA, but especially Ed giving up alchemy and his leg to get his brother his body...but it works because it was a situation he brought on himself.
There was no need for her sacrifice when Honerva had the ability to recreate the timelines she destroyed by herself and the crew had a timeline to go back to already.
