So i herd u leik Star Trekz
So I got to see the new Trek movie on Sunday. First time I've ever gotten to watch a Trek movie in the theatre (something I didn't think I'd have the chance to do after the dismal failure of "Nemesis"), and I gotta say it was pretty cool.
The good:
-Casting: The actors seem to know they were filling some really big shoes. I heard the guy that plays Spock practiced for weeks to perform the Vulcan salute and to be able to raise his eyebrow (which only happens in one, really brief scene). And it shows in all their scenes.
-Trek references: These weren't the "bash you over the head with a 2 x 4" variety that Manny Coto shoehorned into Enterprise's last season. They were subtle nobs that fans could enjoy and say "Ah, I get it," and that new folks wouldn't be distracted by. (Christorpher Pike in the wheelchair at the end, as one example.) Yes, there is one about the poor redshirt getting killed, and I can't believe it took me ten minutes to realize it *holds head down in shame*
-Spock/Uhura: Well, that is....different. But a good different. And honestly, with Trek's batting average as far as romance goes, I couldn't bitch too hard if I wanted to.
-ACTION! OMFG, the action scenes just kick ass. Makes me sad I don't have a Blu-ray player.
-Small nitpick, but there's one scene where they have trouble locking onto Kirk and Sulu free-falling in the transporter room. Chekov runs to save the day here, but I just realized how for the most part how clean transporting usually is in Trek no matter the situation (Enterprise being an exception, because...well, the tech is new. One of the few things it got right, but I digress), and I'm glad we got to see it not be perfect.
-Leonard Nimoy appears! Does that need any more explaination than that?!
-LULZ. And I mean, there are so many scenes where I'm laughing my ass off. The problem with TNG movies is that they take themselves way too seriously or, in the rare attempt to be funny, they try way too hard. Data telling Worf a boob joke?! My sense of humor goes into the gutter quite often, and that made me cringe.
No, but the funny stuff in here was pretty cool.
The not-so-great:
-Chekov's accent: Okay, seriously, does it need to be that thick in the 21st century? We get it, he's Russian.
-The bridge design: I didn't mind in the commericlas, but all that white and no color...OUCH, my poor eyes. The viewscreen that doesn't obstruct the view outside the ship was a nice touch, though.
-Krik becoming Captain: I promised myself I wouldn't whine about this plot point, buuuuuuuuuuut...aSDFGHJKL. And of a brand new ship, no less? I guess they have to set it up like that so we can get to the action in the sequel that, looking at the sales for this movie, is most likely a given.
Stuff I should mention:
Nero's cries of "SPOOOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCCKKK!" has shades of Kirk's infmous cry of "KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHN!" I don't know if the writers did this intentionally or not, but LOL CHEESE.
Overall, it's a nice little popcorn action flick that is fun, I recommend everyone go see it, even if you're not a Trek fan
Also, I ship Kirk/Spock now, kthnxsbye.
(I hope someone replies to this post, cuz I really loves discussion me some Trek!)

I feel kind of disloyal, though. Spock/Kirk was one of my first slash ships, and yet when I left the theatre I found myself shipping Kirk/McCoy more. XD I still liked Spock/Kirk, though. Really, the whole movie was Spock/Kirk/McCoy. XD

Honestly, I think my favorite character in this was the half hour we got of Scotty. "That's the first time I transported three people from two locations onto one transporter pad!" XD
The Kirk/McCoy interactions were great all the way around. From what little I've seen of TOS, it always seemed liek the writers loved showcasing K/S and Spock and McCoy clashing, but not Kirk and McCoy, so I found that interesting
I now have such a great idea for a Bleach crackfic in which Ichigo's serving incognito on a starship that gets attacked by the Borg, and decides "fuck these phasers, I'm a Soul Reaper" and kicks it old school with Zangetsu.
.....yeeeeeeah, my mind's an interesting place to be in.

Yess! Scotty and his little alien friend were epic!!
Yes, that's it exactly. The relationship focus in the original series were Kirk&Spock and Bones&Spock, and those were the pairings I liked. I never had much interest in Kirk&McCoy. XD It was very nice to have Kirk&McCoy in this one, especially 'cause McCoy was much more attractive in this incarnation. XD Nom nom.
...WRITE EEEEEET!

Makes me damn glad he never saw Voyager or Enterprise. Go get a copy of any season of Enterprise (preferably season two) and any season of Deep Space Nine from the library and compare the behind the scenes features. There is a HUGE difference between the writers of the latter and the way the producers/writers on Enterprise describe the show. The DS9 crew are jazzed to talk about their favorite episodes and the cast have nothing but good things to say.
Quite a difference from Enterprise, where there's a full ten-minute segment of the cast and writers actually DEFENDING an episode that is easily one of the most unpopular episodes of the series. I head about that, and was "...O_o" Every show has their stinkers, but the DS9 writers didn't yammer on about what reasons they had to put Quark in drag (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXKiX1vsJzc) for the sake of comedy.
I'll write that as soon as I get those drabbles published. ^_~ Your pairing is by far the most difficult to write, because my tastes in pairings are pretty vanilla. ...And far too Rukia-centric. But it's coming. :D

And, sadly, I can totally believe that the TOS producers would be like that. The series was back in the 60s, and the Kirk/Uhura kiss was the first biracial kiss on television ever. Thats telling. =/
And yeah... Enterprise? From the little I've seen and what I've heard, the less said about it the better. XD That's very interesting, though, the differences between the cast of the Enterprise and the others.. I wonder if that contributed to its failure at all?
And you're really going to write it?! Haha that'll be EPIC. XD
Hehehe, well, that's why I asked if you were willing to do yaoi! XDD I'll be interested to see what you come up with for it, then. :) What are your favorite pairings in Bleach?

But at least I picked up DS9, and saw that win and awesome because of it. I seriously love every frigging character in that series.
Bleach pairings? Oh, boy--well, Rukia's shippable with just about everyone, IMO XD But I also like Hiyori/Urahara (I ain't reading anything above a pg-13 rating, though. I ship them, but I don't need to see that O_O ) and Ichigo/Yoruichi is always fun. Maybe I'll add that to the pairings list for the contest.

What do you think of Byakuya/Rukia? XD It's one of my favorites, but I know a lot of people have a problem with the concept. And Hiyori/Urahara is win, though I don't know if I've ever seen any/much fic with it. *giggles* And you already have a pairing list for the contest? *fears*

Granted, Byakuya and Rukia didn't grow up as siblings, so that makes it a bit more easy to stomach--it's not my favorite couple, nor will I ever read anything above a pg-13 rating for it, but I still hate when fans squee about the pairing because "OMG She looks like Hisana, so they should be together!!111!!one" I mean...really? I even made a semi rant about that last year. (http://kari-izumi.livejournal.com/4093.html#cutid1)
I don't have a list set in stone. I have one pairing that I know for sure's gonna be on that list, but the problem I have is sitting down and dedicating time to promote the contest and look around to see which pairings are popular/really disliked. I work five days a week and I haven't had two days off in a row since before Christmas. I finally do have a two-day weekend coming up on Sunday, so I'll have to sit down then before the people I do have signed up lose interest. 8D
I forgot about this fic
The title is appropriate, for sure. XD (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5006513/1/The_Most_Perverted_and_Horny_Captain_Ever)
