Being a dumbass, I decided to take a peek at ff.net's Bleach forum sections, and into the shipper foray. This fandom's known for it's shipper wank, and I knew that having to see at least three or four IchiRuki trolls fly through Fanfic Rants to piss and moan about people shipping Ichigo/Orihime.

This rant, however, isn't about that, but of one comment I read concerning Byakuya/Rukia.
For those not in Bleach fandom, Byakuya adopted Rukia into his family to fullfill the dying wish of his wife, Hisana. It may be hard to tell there's a family resemblance there. And Mikako Kouda thinks she has it bad. At least she and her sister don't share the same hair color most days of the week :P Anyway:

man, common, I know I'm like FULLY weird but still, its not like rukia is related to byakuya in a blood relationship,. Also, they're soooo cute together. both mature, and oh, doesn't rukia just looks completely like hisana anyway?

Oh, yes, I'm sure Byakuya won't mind Rukia most likely shares little of the traits he loved in Hisana, because the two of them have...you know, different life expriences and all that. *facepalm*

...and here's one from the Kaien/Rukia thread:

i love the fact that kaien was rukia's first love but they were not meant to be so here comes ichi-kun to the rescue!

I forgot to mention Ichigo bears a resemblace to Kaien...after all, it's not like Ichigo and Rukia would have any other bond to get together after he saves her from being executed. Or that Ichigo and Rukia open up to each other a bit more than they have to anyone in a long time. Nope, not at all. The best aspect is that he looks like the guy Rukia killed on her own blade! That's a GREAT selling point, folks!

*facepalm*

I gotta love how stupid fandom is, and even moreso when shipping's thrown in the mix. I wished there was a comm called ship_quotes or something along the lines of [profile] badfic_quotes where I could post the many stupid things I've read in my various fandoms where shipping's concerned (Biggest offenders on that list would be Harry Potter, Star Trek Enterprise, Digimon, NANA, Bleach, and Yugioh in that order).  Being a GAFFer, I know I'm not alone in those sentiments on crazy ass fans, although for the most part Bleach's Wacky Shipper Hijinx(tm) seem to be contained in threads/comms designed for that purpose. At the height of Enterprise's popularity it was all but impossible to avoid this, and I even remember seeing a thread on warp nacells turn into a shipper pissfest. Warp. Fucking. Nacelles.

...U_U

There does seem to be some hope. In NANA fandom, the rabid Reira bashers seemed to have calmed down like whoa after last month's release. Now here's a character that I could completely understand fans not liking, but people go on to Make Shit Up(TM), and even more irritatingly, give her other partner in crime Takumi a free pass. Water under the bridge now, I hope.

.. Dear god.

I don't even read or watch Bleach, and I know that that's facepalm-worthy. (But wait, wait, adopted? Seriously?)

Yeah, adopted. Rukia and her sister were sent to one of the worst parts of the afterlife when they died, and Hisana was barely able to care for herself, much less an infant so she abandoned her. When Hisana was dying, she told her husband she didn't deserve to be Rukia's sister, but that he could act as her big brother. Being a noble family, the adoption opened up a lot of doors for her--and strains other relationships, but that's going on a tangent.

Will comment more later when I have time, but...as a Byakuya/Rukia and Ichigo/Rukia fan and most of all a Rukia fan, I'm highly annoyed by the replacement theories.

And had the NANA bashers really calmed down? I'm so glad, Cause I know in some Chinese forum some basher are still going "she dare tell Takumi it's rape when she forced him to it?" and even "OMFG she's really after Ren!" But those people practically live to bash Reira.

The board I visit was pretty filled with anti-Reira types. More specifically, filled with types who forget Takumi is just as guilty as she is, but without much material to trip over each other to bitch about Reira with, the thread for chapter 75 died within one page (As opposed to the last five chapters that went on quite a bit longer.

I like Kaien/Rukia and Ichiruki, so that whole replacement theory struck a nerve with me, too. I mean, Kaien became a friend and mentor when she really needed someone to see her for who she was and not another Kuchiki, but the relationship between them had a rather uneven power balance, for the obvious reason of him being her superior and Kaien having more life experiences. Ichigo OTOH is closer (mentally) to Rukia's age, and they're more or less equals. Compariing the two just does not compute.

*blink* YGO had shipper wank? I mean, there's the golden quartet of pairings, but I never noticed any wank. I always saw it as a fandom where you could get away with absolutely anything. (A fact I took to my advantage in a few fics.) *shrug* Maybe I just wasn't paying attention... I've never been that deep into the crazies of fandom.

I never saw much, either, but I've heard the Silentshippers got quite a few rabid yaoi fangirls coming after them a while before I got into the show. Most of the wank I've seen is at ff.net and all of it aimed at how Anzu was coming between Yuugi and Yami. *rolls eyes*
