BIG Drabble Post

I have never done drabbles before the ten drabble meme hit Lj like whoa, and I had such fun writing them! I have three requests, plus two that came to me later, but figured I'd wait until I got these three done first.
Mai/Jou: It should be one of the easiest pairings to write for in Yuu-gi-oh, but this one was pretty difficult. In fact, it was the pairing I just could not write for in the Yugioh contest that mine for Bleach is based off of, and I dropped out. XD But I'm fairly happy with the way it turned out.
Seto/Mokuba: That, I didn't need to think too hard about (thank you,
starsplinter!). This idea's kicked around in my head more than a few times after I started watching the Soul Society Arc, and I know you don't watch Bleach, but extensive knowledge of Byakuya's charcater won't be necessary to enjoy the fluff. Even after all this time, Seto and Mokuba fic is soooooo much fun to write for!
Shunsui/Ukitake: I'll be honest: this one held me up a bit XD I had to go to Youtube and look up a few episodes to pin down Shunsui's characterization. I think I did surprisingly well for what is easily the most underwritten pairing I've ever wrote a fic for in any fandom, except for...
Byakuya/Yuzu?! Well, this one isn't so much about them as Ichigo's reaction. Because torturing Ichigo warms the cockles of my heart ever so much <3 More importantly, it gives me lulz. Especially the ending.
Kaien/Rukia:I think this has to be the most difficult "almost canon" pairing to write a consensual, non-dream, non AU romance for, and for obvious reason. I'm really glad that most KaiRuki fans don't forget the fact that Kaien's married in their stories. So, Rukia goes solo here, followed by some smatterings of her pyschological state at the time. Because pre-Karakura!Rukia could have paid for some shrink's new yatch and them some. *nods*
TLDR, it be tiem 4 fics now, Y/Y?
Silly kid, Mai thinks to herself. Jounouchi has all the optimism in the world. She envies his ability to gather himself up and give his all to the good in life instead of the bad. Although there have been people close to him who have hurt him, he still would give up the shirt on his back for any one of his friends. It was as mysterious as the powers in Yuugi’s puzzle, and Mai only wishes she had his resilience.
“Hey, Mai!” A voice stops her thoughts as she sees Jounouchi running towards her in the crowded Downtown shopping district. The two of them exchange a few words of Happy New Years and discussion of the recent Christmas celebrations before Jou asks if she’ll come to the Coming of Age party that Anzu’s throwing tomorrow.
“Why, of course!” If nothing else, she loves a good excuse to party; with their group, there’s no doubt a game or two of Duel Monsters will ensure. “Silly kid, we’re still friends.”
“Jounouchi wages his finger” Ah, but I’m a man now!” He grins as he takes off.
He’s not a kid anymore. A slight grin comes across her face as she ponders for a moment.
(Quick author's note: Coming of Age is a holiday on the second Monday of January for all the young adults wo have turned 20 over the past year and thus are legal adults.)

Rarely does Seto hear anyone address their brother as Nii-sama like Mokuba does with him. So it surprises him when he walks near a TV Mokuba is currently watching (some fighting anime, he guesses from the drawing style as he doesn’t watch much television himself) and a character mentions how her own Nii-sama isn’t going to lift a finger to keep her from being executed.
Seto snorts and Mokuba looks in his direction. “Nii-sama?”
“Letting his own sister die without a fight. How pathetic.” He doesn’t need to know the storyline to form an opinion about an older brother’s role.
“If it makes you feel better, he’s gonna get some sense kicked into him later on.” Mokuba says, grinning at the though. “I got that part of the manga in my room. Wanna read?”
Never passing the opportunity to spend time with the person he’ll never think twice about defending, Seto nods. He figures whatever he doesn’t know about this series, Mokuba can fill him in on later.
(Quick disclaimer, but Seto's opinions =/= mine. But Seto having gone through hell and high water to protect and provide for Mokuba, I can't imagine that a guy letting his sister die because of rules would sit well with him. Screw the rules, Byakuiya has money. :P)

Jyuushiro Ukitake has grown used to the bouts of sickness that leave him unable to work. He’s so thankful that Vice-Captain Shiba can lead the rest of the squad so well, so it’s one less thing to worry about. But he never has grown used to the feeling of boredom when he’s unable to do any work.
He hears a knock on his door, and gets up to answer it. Jyuushiro doesn’t have to open it to know the reiatsu on the other side, and indeed Kyoraku Shunsui is all grins as usual.
“Ah, Jyuushiro. I’m glad I found you here!” Kyoraku holds up a bottle of an expensive brand of sake. “Care for some? Jyoushiro looks at the position of the sun in the sky. It is just past noon. It’s Kyoraku’s favorite time to drink.
Kyoraku doesn’t wait for an answer as he walks over to his bed and seats himself on the edge to pours a glass. Jyuushiro gets back in the bed.
“Ah, ah ah. You need your rest. Allow me.” Kyoraku holds the thin, flat bowl to Jyuushiro’s lips and he takes a sip. The sensation of fingers intertwined in his long hair warms him up faster than the sake. “Hmm, there you go. You’ll be feeling good in no time, ne?” Kyoraku places a brief kiss on Jyoushiro’s lips. “My, that’s tasty. And so’s the sake.”
This, Jyuushiro can get used to.

And to end things on a light note:
“Of all the men in the Seretei and Rukongai, why does Yuzu have to be with him?!” Ichigo growled as he sat from his and Rukia’s room in the Kuchiki manor. From his vantage point, he can see the two of them walking through Byakuya’s prized cherry blossom trees, her head slightly on his shoulder and his lips lying on her forehead.
They’d been together four months. It started soon after his and Rukia’s wedding, having met the week before that, when his family came to Soul Society to help with what few preparations the Kuchiki family didn’t already complete. The way Yuzu told him, they’d bonded over their love of poetry and star gazing--an entirely different person from the cold, stoic person he knew.
“She’s too young for him, anyway. Yuzu’s only twenty-five and he’s…he’s too old!”
“Am I too old for you?” Rukia groused in a voice that said she clearly did not want to discuss this so late at night. Again. “Anyway, I think it’s sweet that Nii-sama’s found love again.”
“Yeah, love.” Ichigo snorted. Rukia knew what that snort meant.
“Oh, Ichigo. Nii-sama never had a lover before my sister, from what I’ve heard, and I don’t think his principles have changed in the last sixty years. You don’t have to worry.”
Somehow, that pisses him off even more, because he doesn’t have any reason to kick Byakuya’s ass. He’s every father’s dream—Ichigo has never seen the two of them walk anywhere near the direction of his bedroom, his hands were always in plain view, and he hasn't seen him treat Yuzu as any less than the absolute precious jewel that she is.
For all the other things that annoyed him about this man, Ichigo knew deep down that when Byakuya Kuchiki loves, he does so passionately and loyally. That man never half-asses anything.
Rukia trusts him, and that’s enough for him. For tonight, anyway, when he can still see them both.
Ichigo makes a note of scheduling in a training session with his new brother-in-law in the near future. Just because Byakuya would soon be an uncle in three months didn’t mean Ichigo would sit on his ass and let him paw his sister up.
I still have six more requests to go, if anyone wants more :)
Comments and critiques welcomed, before I repost these on other comms.

She only dreams of Kaien one time.
Perhaps it was because she was subconsciously tired of being ignored by Nii-sama who doesn’t even look at her and passed over once again for a seated position in the 13th division that triggers this dream.
She genuinely loves Kaien, for everything he’s done for her. But her respect for him usually keeps her from imagining her mentor reaching beneath the folds of her yukata, leaving a train of feather-light kisses on her jawline and down her neck as he pulls the clothes off her shoulders; she certainly never dreamed of Kaien throwing her on top of the kitchen table in the Kuchiki estate and being unable to control her voice as she comes.
In her dream, she wants nothing more and nothing less than to be noticed by anyone.
She has to wonder if Nii-sama could ignore that.

Date: 2009-06-08 03:13 pm (UTC)And the Kaien/Rukia one was so sad. I always thought that Rukia might have unrequited feelings for him, but since he was married and in love and died avenging his wife, she was happy with their relationship as superior/subordinate and nakama/friends. D;

Date: 2009-06-08 08:12 pm (UTC)That's pretty much the way I see KaiRuki, too. To be honest, the first time I watched that episode of her backstory in the anime, it looked like Rukia had the bigger crush on his wife. I'm not a yuri girl on anything, but damn, gimme more of that, plz. XD

Date: 2009-06-09 12:16 am (UTC)Haha same! She wasn't all that dismayed at the whole situation until they both died, so I always felt like she just really admired the couple as the type of people she wish she was; and Kaien also conviently provided what she doesn't have from Byakuya. I don't deny that there might be a small crush, only that it is a lot more complicated than unrequited romantic attraction for Kaien alone (in which case I think she'd shown a little more tension when talking about the wife). Also I feel like her feelings for the them is magnified by the tragedy that followed and her involvement in it. What you described in the fic is just right.
The Byakuya/Yuzu one makes me giggle because of the irony. Revenage is a b*tch, Ichigo. XD

Date: 2009-06-09 05:59 am (UTC)All of this. IAWTC. If Rukia had graduated five years later and joined the 13th division without the adoption and her friendship with Renji in tact, Kaien/Rukia would be a complete non-entity. It's pretty much a product of the situation, and I'm sure their death (particularly Kaien's, at her own hand no less) plays a large part in the hero worship that is clearly there for both.
I'm glad my fic hit the right notes on that account. I may squee over this pairing but outside of an AU, I can't write any situation where the two skip off into the sunset. This (http://community.livejournal.com/herdedcats/4651.html) is the only canon setting fic I've seen where the romance between them works, because through it all, he's first and foremost her friend.
The Byakuya/Yuzu one makes me giggle because of the irony.
XD Took someone long enough to notice it! :P
...that inspired another idea I've been dying to write. BRB.
Heeeeeeey, I can still fill six more requests, if you want me to write a pair/character for NANA (I really want to write for Ai Yazawa!verse, because there needs to be more fanfic for it!)
;)

Date: 2009-06-09 02:37 am (UTC)And, yes. I be Yuugioh fan! The fandom is a scary place though, especially if they make Mokuba a druggie. D8
And what was Kaien's wife's name? I keep thinking Miyako, but that could be wrong. She was really beautiful, though, and very kind, so I wouldn't be surprised if Rukia developed feelings for her too.

Date: 2009-06-09 06:05 am (UTC)There was one really laughbly bad Teen!Mokuba fic I came across called "Bad Habit," and every cliche for teenagers in general and Seto/Mokuba was jammed pack in it. It turned out the author was injecting her own RL into the fic. Once she got sober, she pulled it down and wrote a better, if not entirely great, version of the story.

Date: 2009-06-09 03:13 pm (UTC)Thank goodness that writer saw the error of her ways! Poor Mokuba. He's so messed up in fanfiction, it makes me want to give him a big hug
even though he's not real and Seto would kill me for doing so!no subject
Date: 2009-06-10 04:58 am (UTC)I really, really should start writing on that story again, but I just don't know how to go about finishing it D:

Date: 2009-06-08 08:18 pm (UTC)The rest of them were awesome too! :) The Seto one and the ByaYuzu one made me LOL, and the KaiRuki one made me wibble. D:
